Walter B. Strong
'59, MSE '71

The Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter was formed at Arkansas State University in 1982. The chapter is named after Walter Strong and Fred Turner, the first African-American graduates of Arkansas State University.
The chapter is a division of the Arkansas State University Alumni Association with a primary focus to increase the interest and participation of African-American Alumni.
The need for the chapter was recognized by the large number of African-American alumni who voiced a concern over the lack of programs to meet their needs and interests.
The chapter was formed by a small group of African-American alumni a a mechanism to meet the needs of African-American alumni. Membership has steadily increased over the years as the scope and programs have also broadened.
